And God created Blackberries!

                               And God Created Blackberries

Yes I am Southern, yes I enjoy creating all types of goodies that I think my friends and family would enjoy. In other words I can. Yes can, you know put food in jars so that we all can eat the goodness of summer all winter long.
Well it seems that I have created another goody that has left an impression on my brother. Now this is
a man that know what he wants. This is a man that is very lovable but yet you have days that you just want to choke him! Yes He is a Younger Brother! But this is a man that just doesn't hand out pats on the back often. I got a HUGE pat on the back today.

Below is his words and my pat on the back.....Love ya little brother and yes another batch will be cooking later today.

I am a southern boy. Anybody that knows me knows that, Southern to the core. What makes me a southern boy you ask? The list is long but anyone that has a conversation with me can hear the south in my accent but it goes deeper than that. It’s an easy going attitude, not knowing a stranger, the quick smile, the willingness to help anyone, including strangers, the list goes on. That being said one of the biggest thing that makes one a southerner is the food. We eat grits for breakfast, slaw on hotdogs and hamburgers and of course tomato sandwiches. Again the list can go on and on. There is the seasonal fare, tomatoes of course, as mentioned before, the Silver Queen corn, cantaloupes, okra and my personal favorite, blackberries.
Blackberries!! I personally believe God put blackberries on earth to ease the pain of chiggers, mosquitoes and ticks as well as the encounter with the occasional black snake. In the wild they grow on the edges of fields and they grow thick, impassable, and thick, intertwined thorny patches that have no mercy on the flesh of your arms as you pick these delectable berries. God, being humorous as God is, places the most appealing and juicy berries deep into the blackberry patch, just out of reach. Only the ones with long arms or the willingness to shed a bit of blood will get to them.
One of my favorite things from the blackberries was mom’s blackberry cobbler. My running in the woods all year long I knew where the best blackberry patches were, marked them in my mind, and when it was time to harvest off I would go with a five gallon bucket. Upon my return mom would always make me a blackberry cobbler. Man that stuff was good!! The cobbler dough would go into a buttered dish, the berry concoction would follow and as it cooked the dough would bubble up giving it the golden brown marbled crust that is paramount for a proper southern cobbler.
Now the second best thing that comes from blackberries is the Blackberry Jam, Jelly and Preserves. I group them all together as they all go on my toast that I eat with my scrambled eggs, bacon and of course grits. It’s the flavor I look for and ask for at restaurants and it is the flavor that I will always have at my house. That being said, for the first time in my 54 years of living in the south, I have tasted something that although I can’t say would topple mom’s cobbler from the top of my list, it is so very close I could possibly call it a tie.
Blackberry/Bourbon Jam! Oh my lawd! People, I am talking straight up manna from heaven here! I don’t know whose brilliance is credited with the idea of combining these two ingredients into a jam but Damn! I do know however who’s expertise in recreating this marvelous delectable recipe is and that is my sister, Elaine Jackson. For those that know me and my sisters and my brother know that we give each other a hard time. It’s nothing but love but a hard time it is, about everything. So it is rare that we would publicly give any kind of credit to each other. We wouldn’t want the others heads to get any larger! That being said Elaine just moved up a couple notches with this brother. That’s how good that blackberry bourbon jam is. So Elaine Jackson, Well done! Well done indeed!

We are down to the wire and of course the monster of a hard-headed machine decided that it would get me a small, but strong, panic attack last night! Attack is over and I think I have the machine fixed. Everyone say a prayer, light a candle, and rub budda's belly for me. LOL

10 days to go and we will be at the Hill's Blackberry Festival at the lake in Salisbury NC. Come on out and see just how we turn Blackberry picking into a Party!

I am looking forward to this, and also to some fresh blackberries! Oh and if you are into picking your own berries then by all means stop by our booth for one of these beauties.

We have all kinds of "berry" goodies just for this Festival!
Towels, Aprons, Mug Rugs and so much more!

Well I had lost this blog for quite a while now but just found it again. LOL Yes that is how life is sometimes for me. The problem, and its one that I have created myself is that I do not know how to say no, and that I let most people dump what they need done on me to do for them. Allowing this does nothing but put me way behind what my business and I need to do. So lets see if I can't turn over a new leaf and start doing for me and mine first. So join me if you wish and lets just get on down, get on down the road. LOL

Stiching to Save my Sanity

A very good friend of mine is a stitching goddess! Sparks fly as her needle moves at lightening speed, and OMG! the beauty of her work can be breath- taking! As all things go yes I can stitch but no where near to what she can do, I just want to make myself perfectly clear on this fact!
And as I said in my eariler post, stress levels were at melt down mode and she is such a friend that would listen and let me escape for a moment or two all the craziness in just a simple phone call between friends. After my normal whin and bitch about my crew, we would always get to the part of telling each other what all we were working on. In these conversations she always spoke about her stitching with such passion to the point I would envy her talent. Now remember I am stitch too.
I was out on a mission the other weekend searching for some scrapbooking supplies and I ran across this cross stitch kit. Long story short the light bulb went off and the kit came home with me! Just maybe this would be the answer to some alone time for me. I know it was wishing big but what the heck I was going to give it a shot! Now here is a fact about me that you just might not know. When I get an idea I think BIG! Just remember that. LOL
After a good 8 to 10 yrs of not touching a needle or hoop here is the kit that I bought.

And here is what I have gotten done after a little over a week of stitching!

Being brave enough to post this I can assure you that my "stitching goddess" friend is laughing so hard that she is going to need some Depends but what can I say these few stitches are saving my sanity!

Good Morning World!

I have talked and talked about doing a blog and just never got around to it. But guess what? The time has come for this crazy old lady to bite the bullet and jump in the deep end! Yes I am now a blogger! LOL!
I guess my biggest hurdle was wondering why in the world would anyone want to know what is going on in my little spot in the universe.
Life isn't all that grand for me, and it has a tenancy to be a bit crazy! Anyone that knows me knows that my plate is full. Full to the point that crap is oozing off the sides on a daily basis! And that is putting it lightly!
As things go I am usually super busy doing for members of my family to the point that I never sit down and do something for me! With stress levels at a major breaking point I said the hell with it all and stole some of my time back from my family! This being my first post I guess I am going to let the world know just what I have being doing.
Yes most of you are going to find this boring as all get out but you have to remember you were warned! Remember I did say time has come for this crazy old lady to jump in the deep end. LOL! I do hope that some of you will enjoy my rambling no matter how crazy I am, and if not just don't call the Funny Farm as this bunch around here wouldn't be able to find their way out of a wet paper bag if they haul me off! LOL!
